The Rev. Dr. David C. Bocock—Pastor Bo—was born and raised in Oklahoma City, OK.
After high school, he joined the US Air Force and served in Chapel Management. After he was released from active duty, he graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma on the G.I. Bill and then enrolled and graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He remained in the US Air Force Reserves serving in both the Gulf War and the Bosnian Conflict.
In May 2011, Bo receive his Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Theological School at Drew University, with an emphasis on Congregational Growth and Development.
Bo was ordained into the ministry in the United Church of Christ (UCC) in 2001 and has served churches in New York City and Northern and Central New Jersey. He has served his local ecclesial body as chairperson for the Pre-Ordination Commission, chairperson of his Association’s governing Council, and started a clergy-support and coaching ministry known as PastorLab. He is also the founder and former director of the Rainbow Cafe, New Jersey’s largest LGBTQ+ youth and fellowship support group.
Although he was ordained in the UCC, his faith perspective and zeal for ministry were influenced by a variety of mainline faith traditions as well as the military chaplaincy. He believes that we can know God and be known by God. This is accomplished in a variety of ways–through worship, personal devotion, intentional spiritual growth, and service to others. But rather than seeking to know God as an individual, God is made known through the relationships and journeys we share with others. When left to our devices, we tend to make God into our own image, but when we journey together, we find God is revealed in the love we share for one another.
Bo is convinced that the best of the Pioneer Church lies before and in front of us. Together, we can help build and cultivate God’s kin-dom on earth, as it is in heaven.
Bo is single and new to Sacramento. In his free time, he enjoys activism, playing golf, disc golf, and volleyball. He is an avid reader and Facebook post-er. If you have a question or would like to get acquainted with him, his email address is firstname.lastname@example.org.
