What's Happening this Week

Potluck on the First Sundays

On the first Sunday of each month, we host a potluck luncheon after church in Fellowship Hall. You are invited to bring your favorite dish to feed about 25-30 folks who stay after the service. We also have a few unhoused folks who join us. You don't need to sign up for anything specific, just bring what you like to cook and we'll eat it!

Hymn Sing on Sunday,
August 10

Join us on Sunday, August 10, for an all-church HYMN SING. You are invited to select your favorite hymns in the red hymnal in the pews. During the service, you'll shout out your hymn and the two stanzas you want us to sing of that hymn, and we'll sing it. The entire service will be devoted to this unique and special hymnody, so we need everyone to participate. Thank you!

All Church Anniversary Picnic

Planning is underway for the annual church picnic and potluck, which will be Sunday, September 28, 2025, right after service, both inside the Fellowship hall and outside in the Labyrinth.

Our theme this year is Bring Your Best Church Recipe.

Please email your sign-up to Ellen at ellen.ardenogle@gmail.com so we have a backup list of who is signed up for what. Sign-up sheets will also be available in Fellowship, but we need to have a backup for planning.

We will also need folks to help with set up and break down (especially folks who are not in the choir or otherwise involved in the service).

Remembering Your Pledges

As the summer months are upon us, we invite you to remember to contribute to your pledges and offerings. It’s easy to forget to contribute, especially if you’re traveling or participating in weekend summer activities.

Clothing Donations

Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Avenue, is accepting clothing donations for its HART Respite program there that provides clothing, essentials, and food for the unhoused. Clothes can be donated Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The bundled cloths need to be marked for HART Respite. Just call the custodian at the church, his number is on the door there. They know where to put donations. Everyday clothes are asked for, nothing dressy. As an aside, Leslie Robinson is able to bring your donations with her when she volunteers on Fridays.

3 Ways to Give to Pioneer

1.  Follow this link to Paypal and make your donation there.

2.  Worship services on Sunday at 10:00 AM or stop by the church office.

3.  Mail in your donation: Pioneer Congregational Church, 2700 L Street, Sacramento, CA 95816

Signup Sheets

Have you been interested in volunteering at the church? One way to do that is to volunteer to be a Sunday reader, an usher, a teller, or to bring treats and food for Fellowship Hour. You are invited to see where you’d like to help out and sign up. Look for the signup sheets in Fellowship Hall on Sundays after church. Your help and contribution makes Pioneer shine!

Join us every Wednesday at 6:30 PM for Bible Study. Our Bible study The Good Place, watches an episode from the second season of the Netflix series and then follows a Bible study in conversation with it. If you are interested in this, please get in touch with Pastor Bo at pastorbo@pioneerucc.org and let him know of your interest. Thanks!

Bible Study

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed as Readers, Ushers, and provide food and refreshments during Coffee Hour. Training is offered for any volunteer effort. If you're interested, please contact Philip or Scott.

Meal Sacks, Gloves, & Tents

Our church provides food, clothing, tents, handwarmers, scarves, tents, and a number of needed items for the unhoused of midtown Sacramento. These provisions are provided by contributions to our Compassion Fund.

Women's Breakfast

The Women’s Breakfast will meet on Saturday, September 13 at 9:00 AM. Join us for lively and friendly conversations. We meet at Aviator's Restaurant, 6151 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA. Please contact Sue Bryant Still to let her know you're interested in attending. Reservations need to be made for each breakfast.

Prayer Ministry

We have a vibrant prayer ministry in our church. Heidi Munoz collects prayer requests, emails them out to our prayer champions, and we pray over all prayer requests each and every Sunday. If you have a prayer request, please send an email to Heidi at prayingpioneers@gmail.com.

We help prepare you for leadership by serving on various committees and boards of the church. We have open positions in ministry, planning, outreach, and Christian education. If you are interested in honing your leadership skills, or developing them, please speak with the Pastor.

Leadership Development

Food Pantry Donations

We collect non-perishable food pantry donations and travel-sized toiletries on Sunday, August 17. We will collect and dedicate them during the service and then take the donated food to the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership’s Food Closet and the toiletries to Wind Youth Services during the week.

Choir Rehearsal

While the church choir will be out for the summer, we'll be back on Gathering Sunday in September. The Pioneer Choir presents music of a great variety of styles – Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, traditional spirituals, brand-new choral anthems, and more. Rehearsals are at 6:30 on Thursdays in our choir room. New singers are welcome anytime. Music-reading skills are helpful, but not required.

Bell Choir Rehearsal

While the bell choir will be out for the summer, we'll be back on Gathering Sunday in September. Pioneer Bells rehearses on Tuesdays at 6:30 in our choir room, and presents some of the rich repertoire of music for bell choir in worship services – and occasionally in front of the church, serenading Sutter’s Fort Park!

Thank You!

A special thank you to all our volunteers at the Gay pride booths and to Randy for assembling the food pantry sacks for the needy.

Mission Statement

Connecting people with God’s love. Sharing a safe place to belong. Serving our community and beyond.

AA Recovery Support

AA currently meets throughout the week in our church. They meet every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Fellowship Hall or the Parlor.

Compassion Fund

Once a month, we collect an offering on Sunday that supports our local mission efforts. We provide the unhoused sack lunches, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, and hand-warmers. We also offer no-interest loans to church members and friends and family of church members.

Tour of the Sanctuary

Dr. Elliot Jones, our music director, leads a tour of the sanctuary that includes the building architecture, explaining the history of the various stained glass windows, and offers a history of our organ and plays on it to show it's capabilities. The tours will be taking a hiatus during the summer months and will return on Saturday, September 13 at 12:00 Noon. Invite your friends to this lovely tour as it is a great way to introduce them to our historic building and church.

We have office rentals, a commercial kitchen, sanctuary spaces for weddings and funerals, and a Fellowship Hall for receptions, all available to rent. If you or someone you know is looking for a place to hold your next party, anniversary, or wedding, please let us know. For more information, visit http://www.pioneercoworking.com or call the church office.
