Lenten Soup and Soul Faith Study

Join us on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM beginning Wednesday, February 21 for our Soup and Soul faith study. Each week, we will have a tasty meal and then watch a short video led by bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado based on his popular book of the same name. Afterwards we’ll have a discussion. Lucado explains that we all experience anxiety, but we don’t have to let worry and fear control our lives. The discussion provides a roadmap for coping with and healing from anxiety. Complete with Lucado’s signature storytelling and relatable anecdotes, this Lenten series invites us to study Philippians 4:6-7—the most highlighted passage of the Bible.

Pioneer Players

The Pioneer Players is the new resident theatre company of our church. We produce uplifting and inspiring shows including plays for young audiences and original works. We invite you to become part of the Pioneer Players family. Currently, we are seeking volunteers to become members of our production team to offer assistance with all areas of design including costumes, sets, and lighting. We are also looking for ushers for upcoming shows. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at pioneerplayers@pioneerucc.org.

We have a place for all Pioneer Players information here on our website. You can locate future information about the players on our tab up-top. Select the Ministries tab and scroll down to the Pioneer Players tab.

Volunteers Needed: Pioneer Players

Our new resident theatre company Pioneer Players is producing their first play (Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest) this spring. To bring the show to our stage, they are seeking support from volunteers in all areas of production: sets, costumes, props, lights, sound, and ushers.

Interested in being a part of the Pioneer Players production team? Join them for a one-hour informational meeting in the fellowship hall on Saturday, March 9 at 1pm. Can’t make that meeting? Join them for a one-hour virtual Zoom meeting on Monday, March 11 at 7pm.

Please contact David-Matthew Barnes and Cyndy Lopez-Spencer at pioneerplayers@pioneerucc.org for more details.

We Need Your Ideas and Input

We need your ideas and input. A new church website in the works. Our church Council voted at the end of last year for a new church website. Currently, we have significant space issues and the site itself is difficult to keep up-to-date and is very finicky to operate. We hope to have the site up and running sometime in March. You can help by letting us know how you would like our website to look, what information you would like to see on it, and any interesting ideas we ought to consider. Please email or speak with Pastor Bo about your ideas and suggestions.

Mission and Vision Statements

At our Annual Meeting, our church voted and approved two new mission and vision statements. These carefully worded statements are meant to guide us into a more intentional future of revitalization. Here are those statements:

Mission Statement: Connecting people with God’s love. Sharing a safe place to belong. Serving our community and beyond.

Vision Statement: A diverse community that connects individuals of all ages and all families with God’s love. We achieve this by serving our neighbors near and far, worshiping together, and creating a safe space to belong.

Church Choir

The Pioneer Choir rehearses every Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 PM in the Choir Room.

Handbell Choir

The Pioneer Bells, our handbell choir, rehearses every Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 PM in the Choir Room.

Capital Chorale

The Capital Chorale will rehearse on Thursdays beginning February 29 in preparation for its next concert with orchestra, “Handel Beyond Messiah” to be held on April 26.

Prayer Ministry

We have a vibrant prayer ministry in our church. Heidi Munoz collects prayer requests, emails them out to our prayer champions, and we pray over all prayer requests each and every Sunday. If you have a prayer request, please send an email to Heidi at prayingpioneers@gmail.com.

Volunteers Needed

We are always looking for volunteers to assist us on Sunday mornings. If there is a particular Sunday you wish to volunteer, please use the signup sheets available after worship in Fellowship Hall or call our Office Manager, Kelton Jackson at the church office at 916-443-3727. Volunteers are needed as Readers, Ushers, and provide food and refreshments during Coffee Hour. Training is offered for any volunteer effort. You may also sponsor flowers for worship in honor or memory of a loved one. We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to assist the pastor with our Outreach ministries. Interested persons should contact Pastor Bo. Thanks!

Food Pantry Donations

We are collecting non-perishable food pantry donations and travel sized toiletries on Sunday, March 17. We will collect and dedicate them during the service, and then take the donated food to the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership’s Food Closet and the toiletries to Wind Youth Services during the week.

Thank You!!

A special thank you goes to Randy and Linda for the tasty Fellowship treats from this past Sunday, to Philip and Marietta for their help arranging the Soup and Soul Lenten study, and again to Randy and Linda for their help with the sack lunch feeding program.

Women's Breakfast

The Women’s Breakfast will meet on on Saturday, February 10. Join us for lively and friendly conversations. This fellowship group will be meeting at a new place. Please contact Sue for more details.

Book Club

Our next meeting of the Book Club will be on Tuesday, February 20 at 11:00 AM in Caryl’s home. The book to be discussed is, The Pursuit of Love, by Nancy Mitford.

Parking

Parking is available each Sunday in a variety of places and during the weekday in specific places. First, there are parking spaces out front and around the church. No meter fees are collected on Sunday. Second, there is free parking underground next door/behind the church in the underground parking at the Teichert underground parking garage. Enter on Capitol Street between the garage and the hospital (refer to image at left). The parking gate is open at 9:00 AM on Sundays. You may park in any space even if it says reserved.

During the weekday, we have the entire basement level for our parking needs but you will need to get a parking card to access the closed gate, unless we have prearranged an event for the gates to be open.

The church’s reserved parking is located on the B2 basement floor.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings

AA currently meets throughout the week in our church. They meet every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Fellowship Hall or the Parlor.
