The annual congregational meeting of the Pioneer Congregational Church will be Sunday, January 29th immediately following Sunday worship in the Fellowship Hall. We will be presenting reports, electing members to serve on various committees, approving our budget, presenting new business, and having a wonderful time doing it. Everyone associated with the church is invited to attend and discuss our ministries but only active church members will be allowed to vote.
The Annual Reports have been submitted to the church for our membership review. To download your copy, please follow this link. Everyone is invited to read the reports but if you plan to attend the annual congregational meeting on Sunday, please attend having read the reports. Thanks!
Join us this coming Sunday as we receive Sue Bryant-Still, Pastor Bo, and Dr. Elliot Jones into membership during the Sunday service.
Dr. Jones and Pastor Bo are collecting your favorite hymns to be sung on Sundays. In order to help us accomplish this, we are providing you with a few ways to let us know your picks. First, you can simply tell us. Secondly, we have various hymnals in the side office in the church office for you pick through. And then let us know. Finally, you can go online to this link: https://forms.gle/m5LbwVRCzCyuqv3n7 And let us know your top 5 favorite hymns. We’ll put together a list of favorite hymns to choose from. We will choose at least 1 favorite hymn to sing every Sunday in the liturgy. Thanks!
This Sunday is COMPASSION SUNDAY – THE LAST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH- please put your compassion offering in the envelope in the back of the pew in front of you and check off “Compassion” with your name and amount. Our Compassion Fund provides relief for the family and friends of the congregation. It is also used to purchase meal sacks for the homeless, for those who ask for it. If you are using one check or envelope for both compassion and pledge, please make clear to tellers how much to each. Thank you.
Weekly Bible Study. Beginning the first or second week of February, we are offering a new kind of Bible study. Newcomer to the church and the choir, Jake Hodge will be leading the study. Jake is pursuing his PhD in English Literature at UC Davis. His dissertation is on the American Theology of Song. Jake will be leading a Bible study each week on the upcoming Scripture lessons used on every Sunday. What we need to determine is when will this study take place. We are looking at either Monday at 7:00 PM or Thursday at 3:00 PM. If you are interested in attending, please fill out the online questionnaire by following this link (https://tinyurl.com/2nfrtpnd) and make your selection(s). Pick either or both of the recommended days/times and we’ll select the one with the most consensus. Thank you!
Mark your calendars! All those who identify as men associated in any way with the church are invited for dinner and conversation on Wednesday, February 1 at 6:30 PM at Kupros Craft House. We aim to make this a regular monthly meeting.
Join us for this fun mission and outreach project after church on February 12. We will be distributing goodie bags to our neighbors. If you are interested in participating, see Phil Jackman. Volunteers to stuff goodie bags are also needed.
A special thank you goes to Sue Bryant-Still for providing fellowship supplies, to Andy Balog or his weekly deliveries to WIND & So. Sac. Interfaith Food Bank, and to Nancy Alex for providing refreshments for the Congregational Meeting. And for all those mysterious people who helped clean up the Fellowship Hall and Kitchen from the Potluck luncheon.
We now offer meal sacks for the homeless on an as-needed basis. Each sack contains non-perishable canned meat, chips, cookies, fruit, cheese and crackers, water, a wet nap, and peppermint candies. Your continued donations to the Compassion Fund help us provide food for Sacramento’s most vulnerable.
We have a vibrant prayer ministry in our church. Heidi Munoz collects prayer requests, emails them out to our prayer champions, and we pray over all prayer requests each and every Sunday. If you have a prayer request, please send an email to Heidi at happyheidi@prodigy.net.
We have nine underground parking spaces available in the Teichert Motor Court located on Capitol Avenue between our church and Sutter Hospital. Monthly rate is $120. For more information, please contact the church office.
All the women of the church are invited for breakfast on the first Saturday of the month at 9:00 AM. The women of the church meet on the first Saturday of every month at the The Aviator’s Restaurant, 6151 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA.
Rehearsals of the Pioneer Church Choir meet every Thursday at 6:30 pm in Choir Room C. If you have ever thought about *maybe* singing in the choir now’s the time! Experience and music reading skills are helpful, but not necessary. Just come and try it out!
You are invited to join us after church on the third Sunday of every month after church at 11:00 AM for our monthly all-church potluck luncheon. Bring whatever you like.
Parking is available each Sunday in a variety of places and during the weekday in specific places. First, there are parking spaces out front and around the church. No meter fees are collected on Sunday. Second, there is free parking underground next door/behind the church in the underground parking at the Teichert underground parking garage. Enter on Capitol Street between the garage and the hospital (refer to image at left). The parking gate is open at 9:00 AM on Sundays. You may park in any space even if it says reserved.
During the weekday, we have the entire basement level for our parking needs but you will need to get a parking card to access the closed gate, unless we have prearranged an event for the gates to be open.
The church’s reserved parking is located on the B2 basement floor.
We are looking for volunteers to assist us on Sunday mornings. If there is a particular Sunday you wish to volunteer, please use the signup sheets available after worship in Fellowship Hall or call our Office Manager, Kelton Jackson at the church office at 916-443-3727. Volunteers are needed as Readers, Ushers, and Acolytes, and provide food and refreshments during Coffee Hour. You may also sponsor flowers for worship in honor or memory of a loved one.
We are currently accepting donations to the Wind Youth Services, which provides special needs services to the unhoused youth in our area. They are asking for small or travel-size care items, men’s and women’s socks, and disposable rain ponchos. They are also accepting frozen food. Please put your donated items in the Wind wicker basket at the front right of the sanctuary stage.
AA currently meets throughout the week in our church. They meet every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Fellowship Hall or the Parlor.
Pioneer Congregational Church is a congregation of the United Church of Christ. We honor and enjoy diversity of beliefs held by our members. We find that unity in Jesus Christ and celebrating our differences add to the richness and strength of our life together. We are an LGBTQ+ affirming church that proclaims the joy of knowing God, seeks to follow in the way of Jesus, grows in faith and hope, and serves in ways that foster love and compassion toward others.
