Our banner, positioned outside the front doors of the church, proclaims both our priority to loving our neighbor and our commitment to social justice and human rights causes. We also have a number of bookmarkers that look like this banner. You can stop off in the church office to pick one or two up. Be sure to let your friends know that we care about them–regardless of their race, color, religion, orientation, gender identity, and station in life. We truly believe that no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcome at the Pioneer Congregational Church.
+ Bible study will be on Tuesday, October 3 at 12:00 Noon. You are invited to join us as we read and discuss the book, The Bible Tells Me So: Why Defending Scripture Has Made Us Unable to Read it, by Peter Enns. For our next meeting, please attend having read chapters 1-5. The Bible study meets in person and on Zoom. Please contact the pastor if you are interested in attending this study. Thanks!
All those who identify as men are invited for dinner and conversation on the first Wednesday night of the month. We enjoy a tasty dinner and have insightful conversations. We will meet on Wednesday, October 4 at 6:00 PM. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP to Pastor Bo at pastorbo@pioneerucc.org. Thanks!
Join us Saturday, October 7 at 12:00 Noon after the Blessing of Pets service for our historical tour of the church. We’ll meet on the outside steps of the entrance to the sanctuary. This is a great opportunity to invite family and friends to our church.
A special thank you goes to everyone who brought food for the all-church picnic, to Adrian for setting up for the picnic, and to Philip for organizing it.
We have a vibrant prayer ministry in our church. Heidi Munoz collects prayer requests, emails them out to our prayer champions, and we pray over all prayer requests each and every Sunday. If you have a prayer request, please send an email to Heidi at happyheidi@prodigy.net.
We are collecting non-perishable food pantry donations and travel sized toiletries on Sunday, October 15. We will collect and dedicate them during the service, and then take the donated food to the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership’s Food Closet and the toiletries to Wind Youth Services during the week.
Our next meeting of the Book Club will be on Tuesday, October 17 at 11:00 AM at Pinki Cockrell’s home. The book is, “The Queen and I,” by Sue Townsend.
On Sunday, October 29, our church will take up a collection to donate monies into our Compassion Fund. This longtime collection fund is designed to help the family and friends of the Pioneer Church when they experience financial hardships. We also use this fund to help pay for compassion ministries in our community with meal lunch kits and gift cards to fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s.
The Women’s Breakfast will be meeting on Saturday, October 14. Join us for lively and friendly conversations. This fellowship group meets at The Aviator’s Restaurant, 6151 Freeport Blvd, Sacramento, CA.
We are looking for volunteers to assist us on Sunday mornings. If there is a particular Sunday you wish to volunteer, please use the signup sheets available after worship in Fellowship Hall or call our Office Manager, Kelton Jackson at the church office at 916-443-3727. Volunteers are needed as Readers, Ushers, and Acolytes, and provide food and refreshments during Coffee Hour. You may also sponsor flowers for worship in honor or memory of a loved one.
Parking is available each Sunday in a variety of places and during the weekday in specific places. First, there are parking spaces out front and around the church. No meter fees are collected on Sunday. Second, there is free parking underground next door/behind the church in the underground parking at the Teichert underground parking garage. Enter on Capitol Street between the garage and the hospital (refer to image at left). The parking gate is open at 9:00 AM on Sundays. You may park in any space even if it says reserved.
During the weekday, we have the entire basement level for our parking needs but you will need to get a parking card to access the closed gate, unless we have prearranged an event for the gates to be open.
The church’s reserved parking is located on the B2 basement floor.
AA currently meets throughout the week in our church. They meet every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in Fellowship Hall or the Parlor.
Pioneer Congregational Church is a congregation of the United Church of Christ. We honor and enjoy diversity of beliefs held by our members. We find that unity in Jesus Christ and celebrating our differences add to the richness and strength of our life together. We are an LGBTQ+ affirming church that proclaims the joy of knowing God, seeks to follow in the way of Jesus, grows in faith and hope, and serves in ways that foster love and compassion toward others.
