The Pioneer Choir presents music of a great variety of styles – Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, traditional spirituals, brand-new choral anthems, and more. Rehearsals are at 6:30 on Thursdays in our choir room. New singers are welcome anytime. Music-reading skills are helpful, but not required.
The Capital Chorale is a larger community choir ensemble in which guest singers join our choir for special events like a Festival of Lessons and Carols in December, and a work for chorus and orchestra in the Spring.
Rebuilt in 1993, our organ incorporates pipes from the instrument that was installed here shortly after the building was consecrated in 1926, and pipes from a 1864 Hook and Hastings organ from the previous church building. It also employs state-of-the-art digital technology, including an antiphonal Festival Trumpet that will knock your socks off, and a 32′ Contra Bombarde that you “feel” more than you hear!
Pioneer Bells rehearses on Tuesdays at 6:30 in our choir room, and presents some of the rich repertoire of music for bell choir in worship services – and occasionally in front of the church, serenading Sutter’s Fort Park!
Pioneer Congregational Church is a congregation of the United Church of Christ. We honor and enjoy diversity of beliefs held by our members. We find that unity in Jesus Christ and celebrating our differences add to the richness and strength of our life together. We are an LGBTQ+ affirming church that proclaims the joy of knowing God, seeks to follow in the way of Jesus, grows in faith and hope, and serves in ways that foster love and compassion toward others.
